The Pooka is a creature from Irish folklore and is considered to be the bringer of both of good and bad luck, depending on how they were treated. If you've ever seen the movie, Harvey, you'll remember poor, confused Mr. Wilson: "P O O K A - Pooka - from old Celtic mythology - a fairy spirit in animal form - always very large. The pooka appears here and there - now and then - to this one and that one - a benign but mischievous creature - very fond of rum pots, crackpots, and how are you, Mr. Wilson? Pookas can have just about any color fur. They were also said to be shape-changers, and could assume the form of many different animals. In the case of KnitAntics, our Pookas always assume the form of Jackalopes. These shape-changing and color variations are the reason Pookas are the namesake of this collection.
